Sound City (workshop)
This workshop proposes the discovery of the city, its material and immaterial heritage, through the disciplinary crossing between the practice of architecture (creation of models), the sound arts (soundscapes) and electronics. At the end there will be a sound installation as a – collective artistic creation. It’s an educational school project with the support of Coimbra Municipality / Convento São Francisco.
The workshop is for children (first and second levels at school), teenagers (third level at school) and university students. There will be 4 different groups of participants. In the last one, the participation is free, i.e., there’s no professors in the process of inscription and participation in the workshop.
The discovery of the city will be made through walking routes (in the city), to make sound recordings (soundscapes). Later, in the workshop room, they will make architectural models of parts of the city. They learn to edit sounds that they’ll associate to the places, in the architectonic model, through electronic devices.
The final (big) sound installation will be on display at Convento São Francisco, a cultural space in the city.
