International Year of Sound 2020-2021
EVENT POSTPONED UNTIL A LATER DATE
The soundscape from Savannah to song, Saturday
first part, 10.00 – 13.00
Sounds of Earth. Sound and communication in the animal kingdom
second part, 14.30 – 17.30
Origin of song and language. Evolution of the soundscape
Humans lived within a natural soundscape until neolithic, that is for 94% of the time of our life on earth. For that reason the natural soundscape moves conflicting emotions of fear and delight, anxiety and serenity.
Language is a key competence at the origin of the cultural evolution that changed the entire planet and its natural soundscape across subsequent steps along time.
In the first part of this Seminar sounds produced by earth, animals and humans will be proposed and the emotional reactions will be discussed.
In the second part the infant path to language will be proposed as a mo-del for understanding language evolution. And the basic steps of our cultural evolution that impacted the earth’s soundscape will be presented.
