The acoustic properties of the 5-string banjo

EVENT POSTPONED UNTIL A LATER DATE

The University of Alberta Sound Studies Institute hosts a series of talks with Dr. Joe Dickey, physicist and bluegrass musician. Dr. Dickey is the author of the seminal paper on the acoustical physics of the 5-string banjo. During his visit to the U of A, Dr. Dickey will host an academic presentation on the acoustics of the banjo, a workshop with physics graduate students, and another presentation on banjo acoustics geared to a non-academic audience. This latter event be held at the CKUA radio performance space, organized specifically to encourage the wider community to attend and get involved in ideas and practice related to sound science. CKUA is a local independent radio station (one of the oldest operating radio stations in the country, if not the world) that is partnering with the University of Alberta Sound Studies Institute to do off-campus events.
