Spring Bat Night in Brescia

EVENT CANCELLED

Arcadia Naturalistic Center is organizing the SPRING BAT NIGHT IN BRESCIA on Saturday 30 May 2020, with a starting meeting at 8.30 pm in the headquarters of City District in via Milano in Brescia followed by a walk along the nearby historic center of the city. The Initiative, carried out with the patronage of the municipality of Brescia and in the context of European Bat Night events, aims to introduce knowledge of bats through equipment and methodologies that have been most favored by researchers in recent years. The ultrasound emitted by bats in search of small prey or to move avoiding obstacles in the deep darkness of the night or the cavities they frequent, are now “audible” through sophisticated detection instruments commonly called bat-detectors, but also through audio-ultrasonic microphones always most popular.

Bioacoustics has today further facilitated this approach by providing applications that in real time show spectrograms and provide the fundamental parameters or perform almost automatic analyzes to distinguish different species or taxonomic groups contacted and registered.

Here, in the Spring Bat Night of Brescia, everyone will be able to hear the inaudible, sounds so distant from our auditory threshold that we never thought they could come from animals so close to us. Experts on chiroptera and bioacoustics will participate and bring most the complete knowledge on the subject, on ultrasound, on the communication methods of these mammals.

Brescia’s Spring BAT NIGHT is also one of the annual EUROBATS events which, with the European Bat Nights, or of that complex of activities aimed at raising awareness of bats, biology and their problems, wants to raise awareness among European citizens about the importance of keep the bats populations in good condition.

Participation is free and open to everyone. This is the program: 20.30 – Presentation of the evening; 9.30 pm – “Research and listening ultrasonic ecolocations of Bats in Brescia with bat-detectors and audio-ultrasonic microphones help”.
