International Year of Sound 2020-2021
It is an event of naturalistic and scientific education. The initiative consists in recording and possibly classifying, in the vicinity of one’s home and during an entire week (from 20.00 on 13 June to 20.00 on 20 June 2020), the greatest number of sounds, verses, songs of animals. The collected recordings will have a double use: they will improve knowledge on the diffusion of less known and less visible species, while living around us, and can be used for ethological and bioacoustic studies by specialists.
The event will take place within the International Year of Sound – IYS 2020.
All citizens, regardless of age, can participate to “BioAcustiamo WEEK”, virtually accompanied in their explorations of sounds emitted by our fauna, by eco and bioacoustic experts and naturalists of the Naturalistic Group of the Lazio Maremma (https://www.facebook.com/groups/789864984853895/ ) and the Arcadia Naturalistic Studies Center (www.bioconservation.it).
Participants can register at the email address info@bioconservation.it , join the event specially created on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/events/943637112721055/ , but also enter directly in the week between 13 and June 20, 2020 among those who want to contribute to our initiative.
During the Bioacoustic BLITZ, all types of audio files resulting from the recordings are accepted (although the files in .wav format would be preferred for the best result of subsequent bioacoustic studies).
Once the recordings are completed, the authors are invited to listen them and to choose the best ones, with the loudest and cleanest sound, and then send them to the email info@bioconservation.it . In the accompanying text these data should be added: – name and surname of the author of the registration; – registration date; – the place and environment of the registration; – the instrument used for registration.
This information will be used for the correct archiving of the files received and for analysis by our experts. In the days following the exact determination will be communicated to authors with comment on the quality of the registration and the importance of the data. For bats and other bioacoustically complex groups it will take a few more days.
As soon as the correct determination is received, the sound recordings must then be entered by the author on the platform www.inaturalist.org in the manner described by us on the page dedicated to the Project on the website www.bioconservation.it .
