International Year of Sound 2020-2021
EVENT POSTPONED UNTIL A LATER DATE
After the success of the initiative “NOISE AND THE CITY – L’ANIMA SONORA DELLE CITTÁ” and “A QUIET PLACE – UN POSTO TRANQUILLO”, acoustics experts, doctors, designers and philosophers of sound are again meeting in Palazzo Vecchio in Florence to talk about how an environment can be considered of quality thanks to the presence of “BEAUTIFUL SOUNDS – POSITIVE SOUNDS FOR HAPPY PLACES”. Since 1998, the City of Florence has organized Workshops on Acoustics, in collaboration with the Italian Acoustics Association and the Association of Engineers of the Province of Florence. The topics discussed in the previous workshops were associated with noise nuisance in urban areas, its effects and its mitigation, highlighting the correlation between exposure to noise and the health of the people exposed. Soundscapes, natural and anthropized, are fundamental components of the identity of places. Studying them from a historical, naturalistic and social point of view helps to safeguard and enhance them. Sound is an essential part of communication between humans, in the form of speech and listening, warning, music and creative sounds. Undesirable and disturbing sounds, perceived as noise, must be controlled to ensure quality living and working environments.
The initiative includes a workshop and some musical performances.
Location: Palazzo Vecchio, Firenze, Italy
